Jonathan Vazquez
SCPBA president

An active law enforcement officer and K9 handler, Jonathan Vazquez is the Board President to the Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association and its affiliated 501(c)(3), Sun Coast Law Enforcement Charities. Elected by his peers, Mr. Vazquez has served continuously in the role of President since January of 2020.

Prior to that role, he served as a PBA Director (rep) for his peers at the St. Petersburg Police Department from January 2018 until May 2019, when he was elected to serve as Sun Coast PBA’s Senior Vice President. In October of 2022, in recognition of Sun Coast PBA’s extraordinary growth and success, the Florida Police Benevolent Association appointed Mr. Vazquez to the role of statewide Vice President of Recruitment.  In that role, he travels the state to strengthen PBA charters and chapters in need of attention.

He also advocates for the creation of new charters and chapters for men and women who need the unparalleled legal and collective bargaining protection that only the PBA can offer. Mr. Vazquez understands the trials and tribulations of our members because he is also an active law enforcement officer.  Mr. Vazquez joined the St. Petersburg Police Department in December of 2007.  He was quickly identified as a highly self-motivated law enforcement officer.  He was selected to serve as a street crimes officer (proactive policing unit) from March of 2008 to April of 2013, and he has worked as a K9 officer from April 2013 to present.  He works a dual-purpose patrol/EOD dog.  Mr. Vazquez is a certified K9 trainer and a certified firearms instructor.

Prior to his law enforcement service, Mr. Vazquez served our country in the United States Army.  He was inspired to join the Army in 2001, after the terrorist attacks on our country on September 11, 2001.  Mr. Vazquez served from April of 2002 to October of 2007, and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from March of 2003 to March of 2004 and again from June of 2006 to June of 2007.  He was the recipient of multiple awards for his actions taken in combat.  A firm believer in God, Family, and Country, Mr. Vazquez is happiest hunting, fishing, practicing jiu-jitsu, or watching a baseball game.
